神経内分泌腫瘍の存在診断、(再)病期診断、病巣におけるソマトスタチン受容体の発現状況評価などを目的にソマトスタチン受容体イメージングが用いられる。この検査を必要とする患者数は必ずしも多くないが、他の画像診断法で検出しづらい病変が本検査で明瞭に描出され、治療方針の決定に有用と考えられる機会が多い。
Somatostatin receptor imaging has been widely accepted in neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Although the number of patients for whom somatostatin receptor imaging is considered clinically indicated, is not large, compared to other malignancies, the technique is often helpful for determining therapeutic management because other imaging modalities are often inconclusive in patients with NET. Both 111In-labeled and 68Galabeled compounds are used for this purpose; however, positron emission tomography using 68Ga-labeled octreotide has become popular especially in Europe due to its higher diagnostic performance.
