Conventional mammography causes overlapping of the breast tissue. Thus abnormal tissue can be hidden and superimposed normal tissue can appear abnormal, especially when mammograms are categorized heterogeneously or extremely dense breast. Radiologists interpret mammograms and give diagnosis with careful consideration for the effect of tissue superimposition. Digital tomosynthesis, called 3D-mammograpy, is an imaging technique which acquires images of interest from different angles. They separate structures at differing heights. 3-D picture obtained after digital reconstructing process of tomographic images may improve mammographic interpretation.
